May’s Mcr Cider Club – A Perry Special with Adam Wells
Introduced by Alison Taffs from the Hop Inn, this months selection is by Adam Wells, to coincide with the launch of the new Cider Review website.
Pacory Poire 750ml made its way into Adam’s ‘essential case of cider and perry for 2020’.
He was recommended Domaine Pacory by Manchester Cider Club member Camille who has gone on to successfully establish Calyce Cidre.
“It’s a sublime marriage of a superb pear, superb terroir and a superb producer which shows exactly what the Domfront is all about. If you want to taste the very essence of Normandy’s great perry appellation, try to get yourself a bottle of this”.
Ross Cider Thorn Perry 2019 750ml
The first expression of 2019. This Thorn was bottled pét nat style six months from pressing. It is youthful, delightful, frolicking in the joy of fermentation. A gorgeous honey-melon and elderflower aroma, with huge juicy, yellow acidity that’s capped off by the most stellar of pear tannins. Topped up with Foxwhelp juice at pressing to avoid headspace, but with little impact on the identity of the Thorn.
Newton Court Black Mountain Perry 750ml
Of Newton Court Adam writes:“like Cwm Maddoc and Bartestree, is a maker whose name gladdens the heart of those in the know, but whose online presence is slight enough to make them relatively underspoken-of outside their home turf.”
“This perry is immensely of its place – a compelling, mineral advert for the fully-fermented perry pears of Herefordshire.
