This month, we’re delighted to welcome Thornborough Cider to Manchester Cider Club. Founded by Kingsley Ash, Thornborough Cider is based in North Yorkshire, where Kingsley has been crafting cider full-time since 2010. Working from a five-acre orchard near the village of Thornborough, he hand-presses apples using traditional rack-and-cloth methods and ferments with wild yeasts, embracing minimal intervention to let the fruit and land speak for themselves. The orchard, home to over 500 trees and more than 18 heritage apple varieties—including Ribston Pippin and Keswick Codlin—is managed without herbicides or pesticides, creating a haven for biodiversity.

At the heart of Thornborough’s ethos is a deep respect for nature, place, and process. Their ciders are 100% pure juice, wild fermented, and unfiltered—living, evolving expressions of Yorkshire terroir. Sustainability is central to everything they do: from using renewable energy and plastic-free packaging to reusing waste and nurturing healthy ecosystems in the orchard. Kingsley’s commitment has earned national recognition, including the 2021 Breakthrough Cider Maker Award and a place as a 2025 Green Growth Awards finalist. Expect thoughtful, clean, and characterful ciders from one of the UK’s most principled producers.
