Manchester Cider Club this month is in person at Fierce bar NQ, 57 Thomas St, M4 1NA. This will be on Thursday 8th February from 7pm with Chris Hewitt from Dunham Press Cider.
Chris Hewitt from Dunham Press Cider in Greater Manchester is the most important cider producer in the North of England. A key player in the Rethink Cider campaign launched in 2019, Chris helped form Manchester Cider Club and has guided a new generation of cider makers and drinkers in the North. He has won both regional and national awards for his ciders and perries.
Chris is a first generation cider maker and third generation farmer at Dunham Massey where their farm and orchards are since his grandfather took on the tenancy in the 1930s.
Chris produces full juice, not from Concentrate, cider and perry from his own orchards; which are made up of culinary, dessert and traditional cider apple varieties, bittersweets and bittersharps.
The ten acres of trees he first planted have now reached maturity, with his planting program over the last decade now taking the orchards up to a considerable 30 acres.
Since its first launch in 1921 the Dunham Apple Barn cider tap has become a hugely successful northern tourist attraction and local community bar and cafe.
We will be tasting 6 different ciders:
– Dunham Disco 2022
– Gilly and Vicky blend 2022
– Hastings SV 2022
– Kingston Black 2021
– Sawpit (SV Michelin) 2020
