Season and Place with James Marsden of Greggs Pit Cider
James Marsden of Greggs Pit will talk about how he and Helen Woodman started out making cider and perry more than 30 years ago, and their cider and perry making philosophy.
The tasting will showcase their approach to giving the best expression of season, variety, vintage and process.
Cider making and climate change
One of the key researchers of the effect of climate change on cider making, for over 25 years James has kept records of harvest dates, original gravity and acidity at pressing. There are dramatic conclusions about a likely shift in suitable growing conditions.

Late season:
BIB Blakeney Red, Butt & Oldfield 2023 perry @ SG1013 and 5.5%

Finale
A “shot” of Pear Spirit 2023 – an Eau de Vie distilled from their early season Aylton Red, Blakeney Red & Gregg’s Pit 2023 draught perry (ie this draught perry blend includes their own indigenous perry pear variety)
